Foundations for Attachment Training
The Koru Project’s Foundation for Attachment training is an interactive and accessible course for parents and professionals.
It is a six session in-person programme designed to support adoptive parents, foster carers, special guardians and professionals working with children to establish positive relationships with children who have suffered from trauma, loss or separation.
‘Foundations for Attachment’ is taught by HCPC registered arts psychotherapists - Craig Barrett and Simon Eagle who are senior consultants, trainers and supervisors for The Koru Project.
‘Foundations for Attachment’ presents an overview of child development and the effects of trauma upon it, and explores how the establishment of attuned and empathetic relationships through therapeutic parenting can help to restore mental and emotional well-being, healthy attachment and loving bonds.

The sessions are based upon the work of Kim Golding who was trained and mentored by Dan Hughes, the founder of Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy.
The written framework of the course is complemented and expanded by the professional expertise and insight offered by the trainers who have extensive clinical experience working with traumatised children and with those who are adopted, fostered or in residential care.
The course consists of three modules:
- Understanding challenges of parenting
- Therapeutic Parenting
- Looking after self
The programme is supportive and encouraging and provides an invaluable resource for parents, guardians and professionals who face the demands of dedicated care.
