Psychodynamic Therapy

'Be sure that whatever you are is you.'

Theodore Roethke

Psychodynamic therapy is a talking based psychotherapy that emphasises the influence of unconscious processes and unresolved past conflicts upon present behaviour.

Our expectations, patterns of behaviour and ways of relating as adults are shaped by our early life experiences and relationships. These ways of understanding and interacting with the world may persist and affect our ability to individuate and flourish.

Psychodynamic therapy supports clients to become aware of their emotional reactions and usual patterns of behaviour in order to take autonomy over their actions and choices.

The counsellor or therapist seeks to establish a sense of safety and containment in the therapeutic relationship that allow clients to feel secure and free to share their experience honestly.

It is a transformative approach that allows clients to move towards a deeper understanding of themselves and to live a more authentic life.
