Elizabeth Denton is a UK-registered Educational Psychotherapist working mostly with looked after and adopted children. Elizabeth began her teaching career in Italy and returned to the UK to complete an MSc in TESOL. She worked as an Editor on schoolbooks for Italian children at Oxford University Press, before returning to the classroom to train as a mainstream Secondary English teacher in London, starting in leadership as Head of Language Development then Mental Health Lead. After voluntary work with Young Offenders and asylum-seeking Afghan foster children, she trained in Educational Psychotherapy, which is a form of child psychotherapy focused on emotional barriers to learning.
Elizabeth completed her NPQSL during the pandemic, while working as a Senior Leader in a Pupil Referral Unit in East London, and then returned to Dorset to work solely as a therapist with vulnerable children. Elizabeth is a Compassion-focused Coaching Supervisor for Deputy and Assistant Headteachers working in Alternative Provisions and Special Schools. She also facilitates reflective groups for teachers and delivers training in attachment theory and the impact of trauma on learning . She is a visiting lecturer on the Advanced Diploma in Educational Psychotherapy with the Caspari Foundation and a co-editor of the Journal of Educational Psychotherapy.
